About the Course

Learners will be able to demonstrate foundational elder caregiving skills, including infection control, monitoring vital signs, performing skincare routines, assisting with medication, nutrition,safe feeding, falls prevention and responding effectively to emergencies to ensure safe and compassionate care for elderly individuals.

Learning Outcomes


1. Introduction


2. Identify and analyze age-related physical, emotional, and cognitive changes, and relate these to corresponding caregiving needs using examples from real-life scenarios.


3. Demonstrate proper handwashing and hygiene practices consistently and accurately in   real-life care scenarios, following established infection control protocols.


4. Accurately use appropriate equipment to measure and document vital signs—including   temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation—according to standard procedures.


5. Execute basic mobility exercises safely and adjust techniques to accommodate individual senior needs and conditions.


6. Perform skincare routines accurately to prevent pressure sores, applying appropriate techniques tailored to the specific needs of elderly skin.


7. Administer oral medications accurately according to prescribed schedules, adhering to safety precautions and documentation procedures.


8. Apply  active listening and empathetic communication techniques effectively during role-play, demonstrating the ability to respond appropriately to emotional   and verbal cues in at least one caregiving scenario.


9. Analyze nutritional principles and apply them to plan, prepare, and serve balanced meals for seniors, ensuring food safety and addressing individual dietary needs to support health and prevent complications


10. Assist seniors during mealtimes, while observing and identifying signs of swallowing   difficulties to ensure safe feeding practices.


11. Identify common fall hazards in the home environment and implement appropriate prevention strategies to reduce risk for seniors.


12. Respond appropriately to emergencies such as falls or choking by applying first-response procedures and using standardized checklists to guide actions.
